European diplomacy, concerned about violent scenarios that could arise in the electoral context, has begun to update travel alerts to Mexico.

The Foreign Ministries of Germany and the Netherlands have been the first to adjust their recommendations to their citizens who plan to travel to Mexico in the coming weeks.

“On July 1, Mexico will hold general elections. A new Congress and President will be elected. In the period before the elections, demonstrations could increase and there could be unrest. There could be violence. Avoid demonstrations,” says the travel advice issued by the Dutch Government.

Germany alsi refers to the political violence that could be unleashed by the presidential race.

Germany indicated that in the period leading up to the presidential, legislative and state elections, “violence is gaining strength against politicians” and is sometimes even deadly.

“This can also affect pedestrians,” he says.

So far, no other country in the region has modified its recommendations.
