The current federal administration has promoted tourism programs in Campeche, as well as public policies to take advantage of the natural, gastronomic and cultural wealth of the state…//
CAMPECHE — The Federal Secretariat of Tourism (SECTUR) and the government of Campeche have invested $250 million pesos ($13 million USD) in the last five years in tourism projects and programs to promote job creation and position the state as an important destination in the southeast of the country.
The general director of Tourism Product Innovation at the Sectur, Francisco De la Vega, commented that as part of the public policies implemented by the government to strengthen the sector, $3.7 billion pesos have been allocated in 642 projects throughout the country. He said that investment is reflected in the growth of tourism.
During the presentation of the “Cultural Tourism Products of the State of Campeche”, De la Vega said that “we must not forget that all this conveys belonging and pride, decreases migration and generates a factor of social dynamism in the entity.”
Campeche is a treasure of national tourism, since it has a rich cultural heritage, with picturesque villages, important gastronomy, indigenous languages, many traditions and exuberant nature.
Meanwhile, the coordinator of Marketing and Special Segments of the Tourism Secretariat of Campeche, Wilbert Salas Pech, explained that the slow growth of the tourism industry in the state was related to the past emphasis on the oil sector, where 80 percent of the national crude was extracted.
But with the fall of the oil activity, the local government and the Sectur developed public policies that allowed to take advantage of the natural, gastronomic and cultural wealth of Campeche, with attractive products for national and international tourism.
The state official said that 75 percent of tourists arriving in Campeche are Mexicans, mainly from Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey, and the rest are international, mostly from Europe.
He indicated that among the attractions offered by the state to visitors is the tour of the Historic Center of San Francisco de Campeche, as well as 16 archaeological sites, museums, gastronomy, tours and various cultural festivals.
