First Yucatan wind farm set to start operating in June

THE RENEWABLE ENERGY PARK in Dzilam de Bravo, Eólica del Golfo 1, will become the first wind farm in Yucatán and is set to be inaugurated in June after the Governor of the State tours the facilities at the end of May, informed the Secretary of Economic Development, Ernesto Herrera Novelo.

In an interview the Sefoe secretary indicated that the park is ready and they have already begun testing with the Federal Electricity Commission. Only a few details are missing to start formal operations, he said.

IT WAS ALSO INFORMED that the equipment for the Tizimín wind farm is already in Yucatan, while the rest of the components for the plant that will be located in Progreso are already moving from China.

“The governor wants to do a supervision at the end of this month to see how the operation is and the inauguration is scheduled for the month of June, which is when all the work CFE needs to do to upload the current to the network must be ready. That plant is already completely ready,” he said.

For his part, the CEO of Vive Energía, Benigno Villarreal, informed that at the end of summer the commercial operations with the CFE will begin, and he confirmed that they have already made the invitation to Governor Rolando Zapata Bello to make a tour in the area.

“It is likely that the Commercial Operation will be at the end of the summer, we are still seeing some details of the interconnection with the CFE. We have already made the invitation to the Governor, and we hope to be able to do an inspection tour with him soon,” he said.

He also stressed that the inauguration could be before or after the start of the commercial operation with the CFE, which should be ready for next September.

“The commercial operation is a contractual issue and the opening may be a little before or after, dates are not necessarily linked,” he said.

On the other hand, he stated that they are currently preparing the latest engineering and planning works for the second wind plant that will be in Progreso.
