In a press conference last week, Mayor Renán Barrera Concha Mayor announced the calendar of activities that will take place as part of the Festival de las Animas that has achieved wide acceptance in Merida and that has already transcended borders.
“For us there is no Halloween; what there is is Hanal Pixán”, said the mayor, who stressed that it is an event that many countries would like to have, but that few have.
This event, which started 10 years ago as a request from the residents of La Hermita neighborhood to make a sample of altars, has become an icon to celebrate in the city those who have passed away, and in its previous edition reached an attendance of 30 thousand visitors.
Throughout the week of the festival that begins on Wednesday Oct. 26 conferences on paranormal topics will be held, along with tours of the general cemetery. It also includes the festival of Pib in the neighborhood of San Sebastian, where you can enjoy a wide variety of styles and forms of presentation of this dish with which one receives the souls.
For his part, the director of Municipal Public Services said that this year the Path of Flowers will also be staged, for which the corresponding preparations are already made.
