Born in the bosom of a family dedicated to photography, Esdras Castillo Valencia learned from his grandfather Abraham the first lessons in this art, in which he has managed to obtain a first place in a specialty event in Europe and numerous other honorable mentions and prizes.
Despite his youth, 35 years of age, with 25 years dedicated to photography, with his images, this artist of the lens has become an important promoter of Yucatan worldwide, which he has achieved through his participation in various events such one he will be attending in Serbia in the coming months.
Some of these works are currently exhibited in the gallery of the Mérida International Airport to the delight of visitors who can enjoy a collection of photographs taken in a dozen archaeological sites, with which the author makes it clear that there is much more to know in Yucatan beyond Chichén Itzá or Uxmal.
“Mayan Shadows, the language of the gods” presents beautiful postcards of the archaeological zone of Chacmultun in the municipality of Tekax and Kuluhua in Tizimín, in addition to equinoxes in the House of Dolls in Dzibichaltun, Oxkintok and of course the descent of Kukulcán in the Chichén Itzá Castle.
“It is precisely the action of the shadows on the structures that allowed the ancient Mayans to know when spring was beginning or when winter began, which left the conquistadores pleasantly surprised, to the degree that they felt fear,” said Castillo, who is also an architect.
“It was having this preparation that has helped me to have a very particular perspective to take my photos, which above all I do with great pleasure and passion to show the world the beauties that we have in Yucatan”, said the interviewee, who added that he admires the work of the ancient Mayans who worked the stones without having metal tools.
The ribbon-cutting was led by airport authorities headed by the regional director of ASUR Héctor Navarrete Muñoz, who highlighted that through 23 years the Airport Gallery, through art, displays ties of peace and unity among the villages, represented by travelers arriving in Mérida through the air terminal.
Also present were the Airport Administrator, Oscar Carrillo Maldonado and the artist Malena Peón, as well as Armín and Abraham Castillo, father and uncle of the artist.
