President López Obrador expected to attend U.S. Chamber event in Merida Friday

In what would be his second official visit to Merida as President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador is scheduled to participate this Friday April 12 in the closing of the Binational Summit of the United States Chamber of Commerce.

This was confirmed by the delegate of Social Programs in Yucatan, Joaquín Díaz Mena, who published in his social networks the official invitation for people to accompany the president.

Díaz Mena posted: “Our President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will be in Yucatán. We invite you to receive him this Friday, April 12 at 4 p.m. in the baseball field of the Obrera de Ticul neighborhood, where he will meet the beneficiaries of the integral development programs.”

López Obrador is expected to arrive at Mérida International Airport around 12:50 pm from Mexico City on an Interjet Airlines commercial flight.

From there he would depart for a scheduled meeting after one o’clock in the afternoon with the American businessmen. Some unofficial versions reported that in reality the president has not confirmed an airline seat yet. The flight in which he would arrive would be decided at the moment.

One day earlier, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, is set to arrive in Merida, also to participate in the U.S. Chamber forum.

It will be the representative of foreign relations who will hold the opening ceremony of the program of this summit, and therefore his arrival is expected tomorrow, Thursday.

It is also expected that López Obrador will hold a massive event in the city of Ticul, where he would lead the operation of one of its social programs, as well as the start-up of the University and the hospital in the region.

The U.S. Chamber meeting intends strengthening ties between the participating regions, mainly in the commercial sphere. This is in the context of the debate with the president of the United States, Donald Trump, in his formal threat to close the border with Mexico.
