CIUDAD DEL CARMEN — The governmental, business and academic sectors declared Ciudad del Carmen ready with sufficient capacity in infrastructure, services and experience to receive the headquarters of the general management of Petróleos Mexicanos and to be the headquarters of a new oil refinery, after receiving confirmation from the next Secretary of Energy, Rocío Nahle García, that in this municipality both commitments of the virtual president-elect of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will become a reality.
Led by Governor Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, around 30 business representatives, education authorities and government officials met in private with Nahle García and Octavio Romero Oropeza, part of the López Obrador transition team, and subsequently toured the proposed buildings to house the offices of Pemex. They also visited the facilities of the Integral Port Administration (API) and those of the Technological University of Campeche (Utecam), where the energy-related academic program was discussed.

At the meeting, which focused on the economic impact that the oil crisis generated in the municipality, the Campeche Secretary of Economic Development, José Domingo Berzunza Espínola, presented a video of the investment-attraction campaign “Campeche Estado Amigo”. He said that in Ciudad del Carmen there are 14 buildings available with the characteristics demanded by Pemex. He proposed the new refinery be built in the towns of San Antonio Cárdenas, Nuevo Progreso or Atasta.
