Everyone loves Sundays. Whether you’re a second pot of coffee type, or prefer to bike the Biciruta with the early risers, the day is for doing exactly what you want to do. Adele Aguirre, owner of SoHo Galleries couldn’t agree more, and for the next few Sundays, she wants to enjoy coffee with friends.
“Because I travel internationally a lot, I miss seeing everyone here in Merida”, Adele shared at SoHo’s first Art & Coffee event on August 12. “I don’t entertain much so I thought, why not invite people to the gallery for a visit?!”
On that Sunday, works of art from Oaxaca, Mexico City, Istanbul and Cuba were at their best in the morning light, and meant to be savored with coffee from Manifesto Casa Tostadora Calabrese, and mini Croque Monsieurs from catering chef Aron Echeverria.
“We wanted to do something a bit different”, SoHo’s managing director Yesenia Lope said when asked what sparked the idea for the event. “Art & Coffee is a nice way for old friends to get together in a creative environment that’s relaxed and casual. We’re also seeing more and more people visiting our gallery who have moved here with their families from other parts of Mexico, and we’d like to get to know them better too.”
SoHo will celebrate its 10th anniversary in November, with a new body of work by painter David Roy Ocotla from Mexico City. The next Art & Coffee Sundays will feature new artists each time, including a few teasers leading up to the anniversary exhibition.
