CHIAPAS — The Attorney General of the State of Chiapas reported the finding of the
corpse of a man, which could be the Polish cyclist, Krzysztof Chmielewski, reported as missing at the end of April.

District Attorney of the Jungle Region, Arturo Pablo Liévano, detailed in a video that the body
was found in a state of putrefaction on the night of April 26 at kilometer 158
of the San Cristóbal-Ocosingo Highway.

“In this circumstance, a dissemination campaign was carried out with clothes and
appliances found in the place of discovery, achieving communication with
the embassies of the indicated countries, which provided us with photographs and
documents that showed that the body found is possibly from the Polish citizen Crzysztof Chmielewski.”

According to the expert reports, the official explained, the cause of death is a
traumatic brain injury, which would have been caused by a fall.

He informed that the autopsy report indicates that the corpse does not have any
injury that has been caused in a malicious way, and added that the body of
Chmielewski has a wound in the palm of his right hand as a result of breaking a fall.

In the same place they also found the bicycle and a shoe allegedly belonging to German bicyclist Holger Franz, who was also reported missing.
The State Prosecutor’s Office ordered “a search exploration deployment in the
location of the finding to find the corpse of the German citizen and others
evidences that strengthen the investigation”.

The Chiapas Prosecutor’s Office investigates whether the German cyclist fell into a ravine while riding along the San Cristóbal-Ocosingo highway.

“So far the hypothesis is that at kilometer 158, which is a place if uneven road, a narrow road with a 200-meter ravine, the practice of their cycling activity was high risk and they could possibly have lost control and fallen into the ravine,” Liévano told Radio Fórmula.

The agent of the Public Prosecutor’s Office will examine DNA to dispel any doubt regarding the identity of foreign citizens, he said.
The German bicyclist, who also has been identified as Holger Hagenbusch, was on a bicycle trip through Mexico. His disappearance occurred when he had arrived in the southeast of the country.

Through Facebook, his brother, Rainer Hagenbusch, asked for support to find the missing man’s whereabouts.

According to Rainer’s version, Holger was riding a bicycle from San Cristobal de las Casas to Ciudad del Carmen.

“My brother Holger has been lost for 11 days. (He) was cycling by MEXICO. He was going to Ciudad del Carmen and the last time they saw him was in San Cristobal, he never arrived in Ciudad del Carmen,” Rainer said in his Facebook account.

The German citizen indicated that the last time his brother was seen was in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas.

He said that the German embassy and the Federal Police are informed about the disappearance, but he seeks the support of society to get information on Holger.

“If anyone knows Holger Hagenbusch, please call 911 or send a message. (He) was riding a bicycle from San Cristóbal de las Casas to Ciudad del Carmen,” he said.
