Mérida Carnival 2019 kicks off in grand style

An evening of joy, color, music and fun in a one hundred percent family environment was what was experienced Wednesday night at the coronation of the kings of the New Carnival of Merida 2019.

On the esplanade of the Central de Abastos, a stage was set up with five screens and with a good sound in which Brenda “La Abejita” Cruz and Óscar Rodrigo “Cocotazo” Chan Sierra gave everything on stage and spread joy at the premiere of the show “Sounds of the Heart, tribute to Latin Music”, which featured 50 performers on stage and live music.

A pleasant breeze made the wait pleasant to fully enjoy the show on a second stage where the Intocable Group, from Monterrey, Nuevo León, arrived to serenade the public of the capital with its great successes like “Y todo para qué”.

Just at 8:20 p.m. appeared the host Sisy Huezo, who introduced Mosk Marrero and Tony Musa, the kings of last year’s carnival, and then raised the sovereigns of the 2019 edition.

The general coordinator of the Organizing Committee 2019, Oscar Cambranes Basulto, and the councilor Nora Perez Pech accompanied the municipal official Diana Canto Moreno and Mayor Renan Barrera Concha to crown “Cocotazo” and “La Abejita” respectively.

The sovereign welcomed the family reunion party that she assured will be full of rhythm and joy.

“In Plaza Carnaval we look forward to all the families to fully enjoy something totally different in the New Mérida Carnival,” she said excitedly. “That the bad humor be set aside and that the party rejoice and security reign among the Meridans,” said “La Abejita” Cruz.

“That we are obliged to infect everyone with taste, not anger, not hatred, let the joy begin at the celebration of the New Carnival, a tradition that is renewed”, said “Cocotazo” in his turn so that later he would take the official image of the 12 kings on stage.

Once the formal ceremony was over, the lights went out and the live orchestra began its performance presenting a fusion of Latin rhythms, and immediately dancers appeared whose elements gave the pattern for the scene to appear the sovereigns who stole the applause from the public, who later enjoyed songs like Guantanamera and Burundanga in an unforgettable show very much like Havana cabarets.

Attendees traveled musically to the decade of the fifties when the orchestra played the unforgettable song “Cuidadito”, while on the screens the image of María Victoria was projected and then the rhythm of Mambo number 8 with which many of the attendees moved their feet.

And on the screens appeared Clavillazo and other comedians of the golden age of Mexican cinema, while the orchestra played a masterly mambo, remembering Dámaso Pérez Prado, while “Cocotazo” pleased the audience that enjoyed the show.

“That’s my Cocotazo”, said one of the spectators while applauding to the rhythm of the music. And then it was the turn of samba, with which the kings lowered the curtain in an emotional closing of the event that left a good taste in mouth to the attendees who were prepared to enjoy the presentation of the Intocable Group.

The show will be repeated at various times in Plaza Carnaval throughout this week.
