Yucatan is a place with which the United States maintains a fruitful relationship, which the U.S. will continue to promote to strengthen the link between the authorities and the people of both countries, said the new U.S. Consul in Merida, Courtney Beale, during a meeting with Gov. Rolando Zapata Bello.
In the meeting held at the Government Palace, the diplomat, who replaces David Micó in the office, stressed that the territory has become an attractive space for American companies because there are opportunities for investment.
There is a good connection between Mexico and the United States, where the link with Yucatan is very important. That is why the commitment we have is to strengthen cooperation in different areas, mainly in the area of security, to consolidate that bond that unites our governments and peoples, she emphasized.
The official highlighted the work that this administration has done in the last six years to promote the growth of the entity, which has led it to be considered one of the best evaluated in the Republic.
Accompanied by the General Coordinator of Advisors of the state Executive Power, Eric Rubio Barthell, the governor recalled that the relationship between Yucatan and the United States has been consolidated through links with educational institutions such as the Universities of Michigan, Texas A & M, Arizona and Miami, with which it collaborates on issues such as tropical diseases, studies on tides, climate change and sustainability, as well as on innovation and technological development.
Within the Government’s vision, the promotion of the economic growth of Yucatan was a fundamental piece and for this it focused on supporting important sectors such as tourism, agro-industry and a new industrial generation, which today, almost six years ago, has contributed to place us in a national leadership role, the governor said.
In this regard, he said that the Special Economic Zone (EEZ), aimed at services linked to technological development and advanced manufacturing, will be a trigger to continue with progress, an effort that has also been accompanied by a policy of protection of the environment, unique in the history of the territory.
Regarding security, he stressed the support, accompaniment and assistance that the neighboring country has always provided through different mechanisms of cooperation and training, which favor the climate of peace and tranquility that is experienced.
After talking about the strategic works carried out during his tenure, such as the Palacio de la Música and the International Congress Center (CIC) Powered by Samsung, he pointed out that his administration will always serve as a link between the various actors in society and the diplomatic representation of the United States, to continue with the strengthening of the relationship.
Courtney Beale arrived to take charge of the North American Consular Office for the Yucatan Peninsula, after serving as Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Havana, Cuba.
