The leader of Section 37 of the Mexican Railroad Union, Ernesto Sonda Castro, affirmed that it is feasible for the Mayan Train to arrive in Yucatan, since the lines from Mérida to Campeche and from Valladolid to Dzitás are modernized, which will reduce the cost of investment of the federal government.
In addition, said Sonda Castro, there is no comparison between the tourism infrastructure that Mérida, Valladolid and Izamal have with Escárcega, one of the Campeche points of the proposed route of the Mayan Train, which is a priority project for the next federal administration headed by Andrés Manuel López Obrador, starting December 1.
The Mayan Train, which will depart from Palenque, Chiapas to Cancún, Quintana Roo, could pass through Yucatan and Campeche, thus closing a circuit that will have beach, jungle, archaeological zones and haciendas, all for the enjoyment of visitors, both national and foreign.
“We join the call of the turisteros and hoteliers. Yucatan has a lot to contribute to the project because we have Valladolid and Chichén Itzá, one of the seven new wonders of the world,” said Sonda Castro.
He explained that the possibility increases because the railroad from Mérida to Campeche, which is where he has jurisdiction, is completely renovated and rebuilt, and already supports freight trains with speeds of over 100 kilometers per hour.
That goes for the stretch from Valladolid to Dzitás, although it is missing to complete it to the Yucatecan capital.
If this is done, stressed Sonda Castro, the Mayan Train will detonate the entire South-Southeast area.
“The railroaders join the request made by the Yucatecan people, businessmen, restaurateurs and tourists to the next president of the Republic, Andrés López Obrador, because the state of Yucatán, which has a tourist vocation, can not be left out or excluded. We have cenotes, hotels, beaches, restaurants and haciendas, for the Asian, American and European visitor to have fun in our state,” he said.
