Carnival in Progreso: ‘King of Joy’ to be crowned Saturday

The Organizing Committee of the Progreso Carnival is wrapping up installation of the mega-stage that will be the setting for the coronation of the carnival kings 2019, which will receive crowns and scepter on Saturday, February 23, in the lower part of the Municipal Palace at 6 pm. Musical performances by the Sonora Santanera and the irresistible Ninel Conde will be featured accompaniment for the coronations.

The Mayor of Progreso, Julián Zacarías Curi, said that for this carnival the security will be reinforced for the tranquility of the families and visitors of the port. “It will be two weeks of festivities, both residents and visitors will enjoy a safe carnival, organized and one hundred percent family-oriented; the Directorate of Public Safety and Transit has instructions to protect the peace of all who come to the port,” he said.

Meanwhile, the deputy director responsible for the Logistics and Protocol Unit, Alejandra Castilla Blanco, invited the population to live the holidays responsibly. “We are expecting many families to visit the port and we would like everyone to have a family carnival, during the event of Saturday Feb. 23, at the coronation of the sovereigns.”

On Sunday the comic actress Chepita Kakatúa and the Caramelo Group will perform.
