Famed Yucatecan cenote-diver dies

Considered one of the pioneers of espeleobuceo (cave diving) in the peninsula, Fernando Rosado Lara carried out many investigations in cenotes of the region, besides being a diving instructor and president of the Association of Espeleobuceo of Yucatan.

During his career of more than 35 years, Rosado Lara made countless dives in cenotes and the Caribbean, and even published a book with his experiences entitled “Tales of the Yucatan Cenotes”.

His fame transcended borders and was recognized by explorers and scientists from different countries, who named him the ambassador of speleobuceo in Yucatan.

In a text published in number 161 of the Latin American diving magazine “Espacio Profundo” in October 2018, they referred to him as a person with the heart of an explorer and a great desire to show the world the wonders that the earth conceals.

He is survived by his widow Rocío Rodríguez Ortega and his sons Fernando, Silvia, Ruby, José Luis, Patricia, Aarón and Abrahan Rosado Góngora, as well as Rudy and Xavier Rosado Ortiz.

His remains were cremated and will be transferred to Punta Herrero, in the Biosphere Reserve of Sian Ka’an, Quintana Roo, to fulfill his last will.
