Forums to discuss noise problem in Merida set for Sept. 6-7

To solve the problem of noise in the center of Merida, it is required that there be awareness and participation of all involved, so that a strategy that prioritizes harmony can be developed, said Enrique Ancona Teigel, president of the Historic Center of Merida.

After presenting the first part of the “Merida Forum towards an Intelligent City”, in which the issue of noise will be addressed, Ancona said that today a situation prevails that affects residents and establishments, although he affirmed that it is prevailing consciousness among those who engage in this practice.

“It is necessary to raise awareness that everyone, we have to contribute in some way to the solution of this problem that can be converted or can be minimized at any given time,” he said.

As is known, the problem of noise has been reported by residents who live in different areas of the historic center, who say that it prevents them from sleeping at night, coupled with several establishments that have claimed that this same problem affects their customers.

This situation caused the City Council to work on the modification of the Urban Development Regulation, so that the businesses that generate noise apply the necessary mechanisms to avoid affecting third parties, work that should be ready before the current administration ends. .

However, the Patronato del Centro Histórico, in coordination with the Mérida Technological Institute, the UADY, the Model University and the Marist University, will hold a series of forums that will cover various problems that occur in this part of the city, such as noise, with a view to offering innovative and viable solutions.

Ancona Teigel said that the first forum will be held on September 6-7 in which experts will share their experience in the effects of noise, sound measurement and technological development; also expected are a practical sound measurement workshop taught by Ecological Treatments of Yucatan S. de R.L. of C.V. on Norm 081, as well as a university competition on noise awareness.

The forum to be held on September 6 will seek to raise awareness in society through the work that has been done in terms of auditory pollution, measurement and health effects on the population and will involve specialists in this topic .

The workshop that will be held on September 7 is to train participants in the knowledge, management of instrumentation and methodologies through a practical theoretical workshop to measure auditory contamination, in addition to the expected attendance of about 40 people among higher education students and public institutions.

Finally, a contest will be held to develop a Harmonic Awareness and Coexistence project in order to encourage university students to become involved in the issue of auditory contamination, through the design and implementation of projects that seek awareness of the citizenship.

Interested students can design a social campaign on urban auditory pollution aimed at young people between 18 and 24 years old or a proposed solution for this problem, using new information technologies.
