Gastronomic tourism, a great treasure for Merida

Restaurants in the Historic Center serve up to 700 diners per day, who form long lines waiting to try typical Yucatecan dishes…

Mérida is experiencing times of great tourist activity, which is reflected in the Main Square and surrounding streets, in addition to the doors of a well-known Yucatecan cuisine restaurant, located on 62nd Street by 57th Street, and its branch in Santa Lucia, where the lines of visitors who patiently wait to occupy a table are long, but at the end of the day the diners affirm that it is worth waiting for.

The manager of this branch, Luis Martín Fraga, told Punto Medio that above all they want diners to have a pleasant experience based on the taste of the dishes that are made from traditional recipes.

“We look for the visitor to have an unforgettable experience, and when they remember their trip to Mérida they will again taste, like a good memory, the cochinita, the relleno negro or the fresh flavor of the chaya with lime, lemon or Pineapple,” he explained.

The interviewee commented that, in these days of high tourist influx, they are serving more than 700 guests daily, many of whom are aware of the existence of the restaurant through social networks, so that in planning their trip to Merida, they are scheduled to visit the establishment.

“It is true that social networks are very important, but we keep in mind that we must take care of the most important means of communication, which is word of mouth recommendation,” he explained.

Among the exclusive dishes that can be enjoyed in the establishment is the so-called “Three Musketeers”, which are turkey crepes bathed with papadzul sauces, black stuffing and pipián, in addition to visitors who frequently ask for cochinita pibil, poc-chuc and stuffed cheese, all accompanied by handmade tortillas that become an attraction for the visitor. And if we talk about desserts, you can not miss rice pudding, papaya candy, sweet potato nance or ciricote.

The manager commented that, in addition, many Yucatecan families are already in the habit of going to breakfast or to eat there on Sundays, which is very important for the restaurant. These local customers help prove if in fact that the recipes that are used have the authentic taste of home.

Similarly, there are several establishments of this level along 62nd Street that on weekends receive national and international tourists who enjoy the incomparable flavor of Yucatecan food in which they can not miss the motuleños eggs and the longaniza from Valladolid.
