After almost two months since they were reported as missing, three fishermen who left the Barra de San Pedro near the Campeche-Tabasco boarder aboard a small vessel, were found in a state of remains on the coasts of Tuxpan, Veracruz.
The presumed remains of the trio were discovered inside a refrigerated cooler that it is used to conserve fish in fishing boats. It is presumed that they tried to get to safety but hunger, thirst and weather conditions ended their lives.
Authorities of the municipality of Tamiahua, Veracruz, reported the discovery on the beach of a fiberglass refrigerator that fishermen use in boats to conserve their catch. Upon checking inside they found bones of at least three bodies, which, according to the authorities, it was supposed that they belonged to people who had been dead for about two months. So it was very likely that they were from the state of Tabasco, because at that time at least six fishermen from two vessels disappeared.
Upon hearing, family members of the fishermen disappeared two months ago contacted the authorities, who sent them the photographs of the bones found and their clothing, as well as the crowns on their teeth, recognizing that these remains belong to Ángel Alberto Martinez Hidalgo, 36 years old, who, along with two other colleagues who were identified only with the nicknames of “El Gordo Fresa” and Pepe “N”, went fishing.
According to the information, Ángel Alberto Martínez and his companions left San Pedro, a fishing port, aboard a fishing vessel of 25 feet in length on the high seas on March 24, and should have returned on the 26th of the same month; however, they did not return, and on the 27th relatives reported their disappearance to the authorities of the Harbor Master’s Office and the Fifth Naval Zone, who ordered a search but without results.
The refrigerator was found on the beach, between the communities of Benito Juárez and Tampico, in the north of the state of Veracruz.
