Yucatan reports most cases of influenza in the country

Yucatán leads Mexico’s 32 states with the most confirmed cases of influenza with 40 so far in the transition season, according to the Epidemiological Surveillance Weekly Report of this disease carried out by the National Epidemiological Surveillance System (Sinave) of the Federal Ministry of Health.

The report dated July 5, 2018, indicates that of 366 probable cases, in the state have been confirmed 40 positive to influenza (it is not specified what types), an amount that places the state in the lead in this area, above Quintana Roo, Tamaulipas, Veracruz and Tabasco, which together account for 66% of the cases registered throughout the country, which totals 139 cases.

However, of the 9 deaths recorded in the weeks 21 to the 27 of this year (transition period), none has occurred in Yucatán, while 3 have been in Quintana Roo, 2 in Sinaloa and the rest in Veracruz , Tabasco, Michoacán and Mexico City.

Of the 139 cases of influenza confirmed nationally, at least 93 correspond to type A H1N1 (7 deaths from this cause), 35 to influenza B (2 deaths), 9 to influenza A and 2 of type A H3N2.

According to the Sinave, until June 30 — when the last 26 new cases of influenza were confirmed — in Yucatan there were 22 new cases of influenza to reach 58 so far in 2018, a figure that exceeds by 33 the 25 I had in the same period but of 2017.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health of Yucatan reported that the state has the necessary drugs to treat patients with this condition, in addition to confirming that in the past winter season the doses of vaccine were applied to the most vulnerable population .

Likewise, the state agency asked the population to take extreme preventive measures such as hand washing, covering sneezes and coughs, disinfecting the contaminated sites, as well as avoiding contact with sick people.
