Yucatan police-canine units receive support from U.S. Embassy

THE CANINE UNIT of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) of Yucatan received tactical, instrumental and material implements for the strengthening of its activities, thanks to the Mérida Initiative, which places Yucatan at the forefront in the field.

“The entity has police elements that do take care of the Yucatecan society. We have a professional police, trained because we are not a conformist state,” said Secretary General of Government, Martha Góngora Sánchez, who on behalf of Gov. Rolando Zapata Bello, expressed appreciation for support from representatives of the Embassy of the U.S.

“The professionalization of our elements is reflected in the transformation of the Police Academy into an Institute, where human capital receives training, tools and skills so that Yucatán continues to be an example of national security,” she added.

The equipment to strengthen the canine activities was delivered in the facilities of the Canine Unit, in the South Sector of the SSP, which has a total value of $157,685 USD, (slightly more than three million pesos).

In his speech, the head of the SSP, Luis Felipe Saidén Ojeda, expressed thanks for the donation of the trucks, equipment, instruments and accessories, and highlighted the high level of relations between the Embassy and the US Consulate with the state police.

“Governor Zapata Bello has been a determined promoter of public safety. He has given priority to the training and professionalization of the police forces, to the modernization and growth of infrastructure and equipment,” Saidén said
